Nicosia, 14 April 2008 - Today the Cyprus Environmental Stakeholder Forum will hold its annual conference at the Fulbright Centre in the Buffer Zone. Participants in the meeting represented different organisations and associations drawn from across Cyprus.
The Cyprus Environmental Stakeholder Forum (CESF), launched in 2007, is a bi-communal, multi-disciplinary network of environmental experts, non-governmental organisations and individuals who focus on advocating island-wide solutions for the environmental problems facing Cyprus. The CESF is supported by UNDP_ACT, the Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) and the Cyprus Technical Chamber (ETEK).
Today’s conference will focus on two very important publications. Firstly, the event will see the launch of the latest issue of “Development and Transition”, an influential international journal on sustainable development, and is published by UNDP and the London School of Economics. The same session will also see the launch of the report, Corporate Environmental Responsibility in Cyprus: Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Action, which was produced by UNDP-ACT, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
Later in the week, participants will be able to attend a workshop on Integrated Coastal Zone Management organised by the Network for a Sustainable Future (one of the working groups within the CESF) as well as a strategic discussion on the environmental priorities for funding in the next three years.
